Headteacher's Welcome

A very warm welcome to Mersea Island School's website.

I hope that you find our website useful and that it gives you an insight into our school, our caring ethos, our high expectations and the wide range of experiences and opportunities we offer.

Our caring community ethos is integral to everything we do.  We expect the highest standards of behaviour and every member of the school community to try their best. Effort is recognised and celebrated and mistakes are seen as positive learning opportunities. Visitors to our school invariably comment on how polite and helpful our pupils are and on the purposeful learning culture across the school.

We are very lucky to have such a wonderful setting and actively explore opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. We have strong partnerships with the wider community and nurture our pupils to become responsible citizens, independent and resilient learners, with high expectations of themselves and who aspire to be the best they can be.  We strive to ensure that our children leave us well prepared for the next stage of their education, as well-rounded and caring individuals, who feel proud of their achievements and who take with them some very special lifelong memories to cherish.

Our dedicated staff team work tirelessly to ensure we offer both high quality academic provision and personalised pastoral care.  We are committed to ensuring every member of the school community feels safe and valued. We work closely in partnership with school governors, parents, families and the local community to ensure that we continue to deliver the very best educational experience for our pupils.

We are all very proud of our school and would strongly encourage you to visit, preferably during the school day, so you can truly capture what the school is like in action! I am always happy to show you around in person and answer any questions you may have.

I look forward to meeting you.

Crabtacular project 2018 - the crabs are migrating!

We hope you all thoroughly enjoyed seeing the crabs on display down at the Hard.  They attracted a considerable amount of attention and, most importantly, further raised awareness about important environmental issues. A huge thank you to Mrs Veronique Ekstein and Mrs Vinny Stapley for making this possible.

If you have any blue or green plastic which will help the crabs feel at home in a watery scene, please send it in to school.  Mrs Stapley (artist in residence), will soon be sending dates out for any pupils who wish to work on relocating the crabs back on school site.

We are pleased to announce we won an Environmental Education prize, this year, for the previous 'Clean Tide Project'.  Well done everybody!
Keep up the excellent work on reducing plastic waste.
