Covid 19 - School Phased Re-opening

The school continues to offer full time provision for all pupils of key workers and those deemed vulnerable. From Monday 15th June we will be welcoming back additional pupils from our Early Years classes.

We currently have a significant number of pods running with children from all year groups and are running very close to our calculated capacity. Our decisions with regard to any further wider opening will continue to be driven by our risk assessment and will be in line with DfE guidance.

If you have any questions please contact head@merseaschool.org

We asked the children how they felt about their first day back at school, this is what some of them said...

'I have had fun being with my friends, I wasn't worried about coming but it does look at bit different and there are only a few in a class.'
'I was nervous but excited when I saw my friend.  I liked being in a small class. I wish I could have all the things out to use.'
'I was excited and happy to see my friend and to make frog ponds.'
'I want to have more boys here to play with but I loved looking for bugs and playing on my scooter.'
'I didn't mind being in school, I was bursting with excitement to come in.  It's hard not being able to play properly and it was very hot.  The classroom looks a bit empty.'

Headteacher's Welcome

A very warm welcome to Mersea Island School's website.

I hope that you find our website useful and that it gives you an insight into our school, our caring ethos, our high expectations and the wide range of experiences and opportunities we offer.

Our caring community ethos is integral to everything we do.  We expect the highest standards of behaviour and every member of the school community to try their best. Effort is recognised and celebrated and mistakes are seen as positive learning opportunities. Visitors to our school invariably comment on how polite and helpful our pupils are and on the purposeful learning culture across the school.

We are very lucky to have such a wonderful setting and actively explore opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. We have strong partnerships with the wider community and nurture our pupils to become responsible citizens, independent and resilient learners, with high expectations of themselves and who aspire to be the best they can be.  We strive to ensure that our children leave us well prepared for the next stage of their education, as well-rounded and caring individuals, who feel proud of their achievements and who take with them some very special lifelong memories to cherish.

Our dedicated staff team work tirelessly to ensure we offer both high quality academic provision and personalised pastoral care.  We are committed to ensuring every member of the school community feels safe and valued. We work closely in partnership with school governors, parents, families and the local community to ensure that we continue to deliver the very best educational experience for our pupils.

We are all very proud of our school and would strongly encourage you to visit, preferably during the school day, so you can truly capture what the school is like in action! I am always happy to show you around in person and answer any questions you may have.

I look forward to meeting you.
