OFSTED Report

The school has been graded as good in all areas following the inspection in July 2016. This outcome reflects the hard work and commitment of all the staff and children and the support of parents and governors.

The report is very positive about many aspects of the school’s work and particularly highlights:

  • The quality of teaching and assessment
  • The good progress made by all pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and those with additional needs
  • The good behaviour of the pupils and how they respect their teachers and enjoy learning
  • The well-planned curriculum which allows children to learn about and appreciate their unique island location
  • The good start to school that children make in early years
  • The highly effective work of teaching assistants
  • The encouragement and support that the school gives to all pupils
  • The leadership and commitment of the governors in holding the school to account

There are two areas identified for the school to work on:

  • Ensuring a small number of the older children apply their knowledge to achieve the highest standards in written work
  • Occasionally moving children on to higher level work in maths more quickly
