ESSEX has been praised and heralded by Sports Minister Tracey Crouch for including squash in the annual Schools Games event…the only county in the country to do so.

The partnership between Off The Wall Squash Academy based in Colchester and organising body Active Essex combined to stage a thrilling tournament at the Colchester Garrison with Year 5 and Year 6 players from 12 different School teams in action.

The popularity of squash is growing fast, due in no small part to innovative schools’ coaching programs being rolled out by the Off The Wall Squash Academy, mirrored by several other coaches in the county including Paul Allen at Lexden Squash Club.

After three hours of thrilling competition Mersea year 6 team of Max , Ellis , Lara  and Madison  finished in bronze medal position narrowly missing silver by just 6 points. Lara notably won all of her 6 matches in dominating style.

In the year 5 section Mersea sent a new team for experience and they did not disappoint. This team consisted of Matthew , Aimee  & Felicity. In addition Henry  (Year 4) stepped in at the eleventh hour to replace boy number 2 position. Henry although he had only played on a squash court once stepped up to the plate and showed why he was selected to play, showing natural talent and determination, a great starting point. All the team members grew in confidence during the tournament and placed 5th in the year 5 category.
