The inaugural Six Counties Squash Grand Prix series, organised by Essex Junior Squash, took place last weekend 18th October 2015 with Under 11 and Under 13 teams from Kent, Middlesex, Suffolk, Surrey and Essex battling for honours.

Played over two venues at Oakleigh Park and Hazelwood Squash Clubs, the series has been set up to feature Inter County Squad players on the fringe of selection for their main squads. Both categories were well attended and received by parents and players alike with some quality and highly entertaining squash played by our up and coming juniors.

In the U11 category our Essex team, featuring Caleb, Lara, Edward, Renitha and Alex came a close second to the very strong team from Kent. Wins over Surrey (4-1), Suffolk (4-1) and Middlesex (4-1) meant the battle for 1st and 2nd in the group was decided on the outcome of the Essex / Kent match.

Unfortunately the strength and depth of the Kent side proved to be the difference with Kent winning 4-1.

Lara ( from Mersea Island School) taking a game in her first match and coming close in her second, dusted off her nerves due to her first time playing for a team and won her last two games in convincing style.

The Under 13’s had an amazing day. Sophie competed in her first team event for Essex, winning all three of her matches as did her team mates. Essex taking home the win for the day. Sophie had an extra good day, on arriving home from the competition she was notified that she had been moved up from the Development squad to the County Squad. A great achievement in such a short time.
