LAST weekend 16th April saw the England Squash Under 11 Festival take place in Warwick and Kenilworth.

The festival is the national Under 11 Inter County championships for this age group, it features the country’s top Under 11 players with Essex entering a team of three girls.
The team of Lara  (Mersea), Renitha and Leah , along with coach Chris Chitty, headed off to Warwickshire.
In their round robin group, the Essex girls beat Worcestershire 3-0 and Middlesex 3-0 before losing out to the strong Yorkshire 2 team 2-1, in which Lara won her match.

In the quarter final the team proved to be more than a handful for Wiltshire with another great display in which they won 3-0. This set up a 5/6 play-off match Gloucester.

The girls again stepped up to the mark and won this match 2-1 to take 5th place in the  National Inter County finals. Lara won four of her five matches 2-0 and in the fifth only narrowly missing out 2-1 (11-9) in the last game.

Lara began squash through the Mersea School squash initiative just two years ago, so to be selected for the team and to achieve such great results so early in her career is no mean feat.

Congratulations Lara.
