Brother and sister squash playing duo George and Grace both traveled to Beckenham in Kent on 11th May. George (Year 6) seeded number two in the boys under 13’s with 8 in the draw saw him win his first two matches comfortably 11-1 11-1 and then 11-5 11-9 to book a spot in the final with the number 1 seed who was ranked 18 places higher than George in the England Squash rankings. Not deterring George, he took the first game 11-6, the other boy then came back 4-11 to draw level, leaving it to a battle of the final game. George dug in and took the game and match 11-9 to claim his first under 13 bronze tournament win.

Grace, took on two girls in the under 11 section (both girls in year 5 and 6, with Grace just in year 2). Grace looks like an angel off court, but anyone that goes on with her will be able to tell you that she plays like a demon on court, with a natural talent for spotting a weakness in the opposition. Grace took to the court first to play the strongest in the group and pushed all the way, despite the age difference to take a narrow loss 3-2 (11-8 9-11 11-8 7-11 5-11). Not deterring Mersea’s youngest national tournament player she stepped out on court later against the remaining contestant to take a great win 3-0 (11-5 11-7 12-10), giving Grace her second runner up trophy in girls under 11.
