On Remembrance Sunday, a bronze tournament was held in memory of Tom Elton Barrett, a budding future superstar cut short by a heart condition at too young an age. His family have since sponsored this annual event to draw awareness to the charity CRY that test for heart defects in children aged 14-35.

Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people aged 35 and under die from undiagnosed heart conditions.

Amelie in only her third bronze tournament narrowly missed out on the runner up trophy to finish in 3rd place overall with an impressive win in Under 11’s.

Lara took the runner up trophy in Under 13 girls with a dominating win in the first round and a close match in the final to the current Under 13 champion.

Olivia  took 3rd in Under 15’s with Daisy  hot on her heals in 4th. Both Mersea girls had a close match together with Olivia coming out on top 14-12 in the last game. This was Olivia’s first step up to Under 15’s so earning some good national ranking points.
