English Junior Squash Championships

This year and for the next three years the Dunlop English Junior Championships are to be staged in Hull, the UK city of culture 2017. The very best junior players from all over England head up to Yorkshire to battle out for supremacy in the various age categories, this year held from 9th - 11th March.

Mersea once again had past and present pupil participation at this very highest level of competition, all pupils starting their squash careers at Mersea School PE sessions. Amelie and Lara contested the girls under 13 age category whilst Daisy took on the under 17 level. Amelie, unseeded in this years event had a draw that saw her challenged in round one playing an experienced opponent from Durham, getting some good points she moved into the 17-32 section of the draw. Amelie then won round two battling with a 3-2 victory against a Northumbria player, this saw her pitched in the 21-24 section of the draw against an Essex player missing out 3-1 on this occasion. Amelie won the next round seeing her through to a play off for final positions and took home eventual 22nd place. Lara seeded in 9-16 position for this event fought hard and with three wins out of 5, taking a game from seed number three player in round two and pushing all the way walked away with 10th place in England. Some great results with some great futures.
