Round one of the Lexden Cup saw seven schools enter the running for 2017. Mersea fielding two teams as have Langenhoe and Stanway Schools. Tiptree filling the last spot after a late withdrawal from Milldene School.

Mersea A team consisting of Henry, George, Amelie and Ruby can only be described as amazing as they demolished all opposition, only allowing 15 points out of the 132 slip against them whilst playing against Tiptree, Langenhoe and Mersea B.

Mersea B team: Aidan, Harry, Charlotte, Angel and Beatrice took first to the courts against Mersea A, this being their only loss, then picking up and playing on they took full marks against both Stanway B and Stanway A team. To have a B team so high after the first round is amazing.

Both teams showed really good manners on and off court and look like a force to be reckoned with in this three round tournament. The top two teams at the end earn themselves a place in the Essex School Games to be held 19th January 2018 at Colchester Garrison.
