Mersea junior squash teams visited Lexden squash club last Friday for round two of the Lexden year 3 & 4 school cup.

Leading after stage one Mersea A team (Hugh, Oli, Emma and Lucy) took on Stanway B winning with a massive 44-10 with all four players picking up maximum points.

Mersea B team ( Charlie E, Charlie M, Ruby and Jessica) faced Stanway A with three players taking full marks and the team winning 34-22.
All our players are improving with every outing.

Current standings after round two:

1st    Tiptree        132
2nd    Mersea A    122
3rd     Stanway A    94 (all rounds played)
4th     Mersea B       84
5th     Stanway B    53

Following round three when all teams have played each other, positions 1 and 2 play off again for 1st and 2nd places, positions 3 & 4 play off for 3rd and 4th place. With Stanway A having already completed all their matches, Mersea A's final match on the 23rd March is against Tiptree and regardless of points will play Tiptree a second time that day for the final positions. Mersea B draw Stanway B and are likely to play off with  Stanway A or B for 3rd and 4th position.

This is where maths makes it exciting (sport and maths combining together). Mersea A and Tiptree both have 52 points against them so far, an average of 17 points per game, who will win in the battle of the schools? Watch this space...
