Mersea Island School proved themselves a force to be reckoned with today by taking home the coveted Year 5 Essex School Games Trophy for  2016/17.
The team consisted of Henry , Calum , Amelie  and Ruby  (all from Mrs Williams class).

The eight teams were split up into two initial groups of four in Round 1.
Mersea came up against Frinton and dispatched them 42-16, Felstead were slightly tougher, Mersea winning 33-22 and then last years winners Ardleigh was closer, with Mersea coming out on top 38-29.

This put Mersea top of group one and into the semi final match. Mersea drew Lawford, who came 2nd in their group. Playing great squash Mersea took the win 39-18 to book themselves a place in the final.

The final saw them pitted once again with Ardleigh who came out the better in their semi final match. Mersea pulled ranks and stepped up their game to claim the title 34-31 and the trophy for 2016/17.

Well done to you all. The sportsmanship and standard of play was higher than ever on the Mersea team and they were a pleasure to take.

Player of the match Henry Calum Amelie and Ruby , you were all brilliant.
