Looking amazing in their new EFS kit Mersea year 5 and year 6 team headed to the Garrison on 18th January to be part of the Essex School Games. Essex are one of few counties that include squash in this prestigious competition, run by Active Essex, a lottery funded organisation encouraging children to get fit in Essex.

Mersea fielded a year 5 team of Hugh, Oli , Lucy  and Emma. The year 5’s won 5/6 matches in a strong display of team spirit, supporting each other along the way, only losing to eventual winner Ardleigh, however they were not strong enough to topple our number one boy Hugh who remained unbeaten throughout. Mersea year 5’s came runners up in this year county championship.

The year 6 team sported George , Daniell, Matilda and India. The year 6’s went one better. Toppling all seven year 6 teams and five of those without dropping a point, looking as strong as last years team who also took the championship making Mersea year 6 team two-time Year 6 county champions. George playing in boy one position also remaining unbeaten throughout.

Most importantly, as we left the venue, Mersea were congratulated as being the politest children with great sportsmanship on and off the court. They were a pleasure to accompany to the tournament and are a credit to Mersea school.

Special thanks to our parent driver Mrs Milgate and parent supporters at this event, as without them we would be unable to attend.
