Crabtacular project 2018 - the crabs are migrating!

We hope you all thoroughly enjoyed seeing the crabs on display down at the Hard.  They attracted a considerable amount of attention and, most importantly, further raised awareness about important environmental issues. A huge thank you to Mrs Veronique Ekstein and Mrs Vinny Stapley for making this possible.

If you have any blue or green plastic which will help the crabs feel at home in a watery scene, please send it in to school.  Mrs Stapley (artist in residence), will soon be sending dates out for any pupils who wish to work on relocating the crabs back on school site.

We are pleased to announce we won an Environmental Education prize, this year, for the previous 'Clean Tide Project'.  Well done everybody!
Keep up the excellent work on reducing plastic waste.

A great start to the new term

It has been another busy week in school. Year One started the week off with an exciting, jam-packed day, learning all about the toys from the past.  They thoroughly enjoyed the 'hands on' approach and were lucky to have lots of kind volunteers helping, I think they enjoyed it as much as the children did! Year Six continued the week with a fantastic Greek themed day. They looked fabulous and were totally engrossed in all the activities.
Year 4 & 5 are learning their lines and songs for their show, we are very much looking forward to seeing it.
Years Two and Three have been really focused on their learning, it has been lovely to hear the children speaking so confidently and enthusiastically about what they are doing and why when visiting their classrooms.
Early Years pupils continue to be a credit to the school.  They show such independence and confidence for ones so young.
The children have shown real kindness welcoming some new pupils to our school this week.  It is lovely to see they have all settled in brilliantly to life here at Mersea Island School.

Thank you to all those people who have given their time to volunteer already this term.  It is very much appreciated.

Our new Art club has proved to be a big success and we will be continuing after Christmas but with a new group of children. If you wish your child to attend this club please book a place online through your child’s account.
