Joining our school

Firstly, a very warm welcome to Mersea Island and to Mersea Island School's website.

The fact that you are looking here probably means that you are considering sending your child to our school.  Whilst a prospectus gives you lots of information, we believe the best way to learn about our school is to come and visit us, preferably during the school day, when you can see us in action, ask questions and have a first hand experience of our school.

We hope that by coming and looking around, you will leave informed and reassured to make the best possible decision for your child.

Before you come, there are some things which you might like you to know about us...

We are incredibly lucky to have the most wonderful setting for learning, just a few hundred metres from the beach and with lots of local amenities which we make use of to ensure lessons are active and engaging. In the summer months, we can even be found having lessons on the beach or enjoying kayaking sessions down at the 'Hard'.

Our school rules are central to the ethos of our school: CARE, Be Kind, Be Safe.

We want to nurture rounded young people to become the best possible citizens for the future.  Manners and kindness are really important to us and this is something which visitors often notice and comment on, along with just how calm and happy our pupils are.

The best outcomes come from the best relationships and this starts with those we have with you, as parents.  We are part of a wonderful inclusive island community and from the moment anyone joins our school, they are very much welcomed and immediately become part of our school team.

We are always happy to listen and help in any way we can. We value honesty, openness, respect, communication and kindness and will always do our very best for the children in our school. We welcome all conversations - we need to know to be able to help.

As with all schools, we have policies which outline our approach, Behaviour and Attendance might be some key ones you may wish to browse through.  These can be found under the Key Information tab here on the website.

We pride ourselves on the broad and exciting curriculum we offer to our pupils. This extends well beyond what is statutory and includes many extra curricular clubs, sports, a wide range of musical tuition and a huge number of trips, visits and exciting learning experiences. You might like to access the curriculum information on the website or look at the year group curriculum pages to find out more.

The most important thing is that we genuinely care about all our pupils and families - if in doubt, ask the children!  There are so many things we love about our school and we hope this just gives you a flavour.  We would like you to come and look to see for yourself.

If you would like to book a visit, we would be more than happy, and very proud, to show you around our wonderful school. Please contact the school office on 01206 382736 or via email at office@merseaschool.org.

We look forward to welcoming you.
